A Mention of the Best Daughter of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)

Ubqari Magazine - September 2014

Abu Laheeb Shaazli

Hazrat Zaineb (RA) was the beloved daughter of our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The name of your mother was hazrat Khadeeja (RA). And you were the eldest daughter of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). At the time of your birth Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was 30 years old.

The name of your maternal aunt was Haala. She truly loved you. She had an intention that she would betroth her son, Abu al-Aas (RA), with hazrat Zaineb (RA). Thus, when hazrat Zainab (RA) grew up, Haala (RA) mentioned her intention to hazrat Khadeeja (RA). Abu al-Aas bin Rabee was from the tribe of bani-Abdul-Manaaf bin Qassi. He used to be considered among the wealthy people of Makkah. His prefession was trade. Whereas from the point of view of his character people used to trust him so much that they never mistrusted him in keeping their things with him. Then he was naturally inclined towards Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) as well. Thus, when the sister of hazrat Khadeeja (RA), Haala, mentioned her intention to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), you (PBUH) definitely liked it and happily gave permission for betrothal. Because Abu al-Aas bin Rabee was not only the nephew of Hazrat Khadija (RA), rather your lineage met with that of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Hazrat Ali (RA) in the fourth generation. Like this the marriage of hazrat Zaineb (RA) elegantly happened with Hazrat Abu al-Aas (RA) which proved to be a good decision afterwards. When Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was ordained with prophethood, Hazrat Zaineb (RA) at once accepted Islam.

In the ramadhan of 2 AH the first battle between Muslims and infidels took place at the place of Badr. With the special blessings of Allah Muslims were blessed with victory. And many people of Quraish were captured by the Muslims. The people who were captured also had Abu al-Aas among them. Afterwards when the people of Makkah sent a delegation towards Medina for ransom of their prisoners, for Abu al-Aas his brother Amar bin Rabee came. At this time hazrat Zaineb (RA) was still in Makkah. You sent a necklace of your's with Amar for the freedom of her husband. This necklace was given to her by her mother hazrat Khadeeja (RA) at the time of her marriage in dowry.

When the necklace was presented to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), you (PBUH) remembered your (PBUH) late wife so much that tears fell through your (PBUH) eyes. Then you (PBUH) addressed your (PBUH) companions (RA), "If you find it appropriate then please send this necklace back to Hazrat Zaineb (RA). This is a gift of her mother. The fine of abu al-Aas is that upon reaching Makkah he should immediately release hazrat Zaineb (RA)."

All the companions (RA) accepted this condition. Thus, he was released. And he reached Makkah safe and sound. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) sent Zaid bin Haarisa (RA) with him so that he may wait for her at a certain place. And as soon as Hazrat Zaineb (RA) reached there he should bring her to Medina. As per the promise Hazrat abu al-Aas (RA) sent hazrat Zaineb (RA) with his brother Kanaana. When the infidels of Makkah heard about this that the daughter of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is going to Medina, they followed Kanaana bin Rabee and hazrat Zaineb (RA). When they reached Zee Tawaa, they encircled both of them. Hazrat Zaineb (RA) was riding a camel. from among the group of infidels Habaar bin Aswad weaved his spear to turn the face of the camel. As a result of this Hazrat Zaineb (RA) fell off the camel. She (RA) was pregnant. She became severely injured due to which she had a miscarriage. Kanaana understood the requirement of the time and took hazrat Zaineb (RA) back. After a few days he took her with him quietly at night and reached Batan and gave her to hazrat Zaid bin Haarisha (RA) and and went back to Makkah. So Hazrat Zaid (RA) took hazrat Zaineb (RA) and reached Medina.Hazrat Zaineb (RA) did not remain alive much longer after this. And in 8 AH, she met her Lord. The purpose of this was the pain of miscarriage, that she incurred at the place of Zee Tawaa while coming from Makkah for the first time. Hazrat Umm-e-Yaman (RA) Hazrat Soda (RA) and Hazrat Umm-e-Salma (RA) washed the dead body according to the instructions of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). After showering the body they informed Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) gave his own sheet and told to don her with that. It is quoted by renowned companion Hazrat Rabeea (RA) in Sahah Bukhaari that she also participated in bathing hazrat Zaineb (RA). Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) would himself tell the procedure of bathing. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) told to wash every part 3 to 5 times initially. And to apply Kaafoor after that. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) himself led the funeral prayers of hazrat Zaineb (RA). And hazrat abu al-Aas (RA) lied her in the grave. In one tradition it is quoted that Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) also went in the grave himself. The day on which hazrat Zaineb (RA) died, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was very sad. Tears were flowing from your eyes. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was saying, "Zaineb (RA) was my best daughter who was tormented in my love." The offspring that she left behind included a boy Ali (RA) and a daughter Imaama (RA).
